Georgie Meadows
Drawing with a sewing machine on fabrics I make images inspired by years of working with the elderly and infirm.

I have always felt the importance of how we interpret what we see when caring for people is a neglected subject. I try to use my images to practice looking in a more reflective manner to try and prevent categorising and assumptions. I hope to encourage empathy and inclusion as well as celebrate the courage of old people who find life a struggle.

With my work, I create a final image from sketches, memory and photos and I replicate this using free machine stitch on old or dyed fabrics, which together with the use of wadding, I can create an aged, three-dimensional effect. I sometimes sew hair or paint the image. My aim is to portray emotions and celebrate the courage of old people who can find life a struggle.
